How the event has spread
Since we spoke about the effort at PyCon 2011, people around the world have started efforts inspired by ours. We've:
- 2011, 2012, ongoing: Traveled to Philadelphia to help teach at 3 PyStar Philadelphia events, sponsored in part by our grant from the Python Software Foundation Outreach and Education Committee. The PyStar Philly organizers now help lead the PhillyPUG user group, and beginner-friendly projects nights are now a recurring user group event.
- July 2011: Traveled to Scalathon to organize a Scala Crash Course for women and their friends
- May 2011: Worked with Montreal Python to organize an Introduction to Python for Women
- April 2011: Inspired the global PyLadies effort and collaborated on talk proposals
- March 2011: Inspired PyStar to form and organize outreach events
